Make-up is a word always associated with women. When we heard of make-up we could imagine mascara, powder, lipstick and etc which like a magic ingredient that can transform someone ordinary to become outstanding.
Why women wearing make up? We might get a mix answer from the women but the most common one will be to look pleasant in front of other or more presentable but the question is, Presentable to who? Presentable to Allah & Husband or Presentable to the public? Too common that we commited sins while trying to win over or impress someone we do not know or we do not like.
Sheikh al-Albany Rahimullah is asked;
“Is it allowed for the woman to put on make-up if she leaves her house wearing the hijāb?
And here is some of his replied to the sister;
“It is not permissible for the woman who does not wear hijāb, let alone who wears hijāb, to use the makeup of the disbeliever, the make-up of the rebellious and disobedient (to Allāh). When were you aware of some women’s adornment called by a name for which Allāh did not send down an authority: ‘make-up’? This is a word that we don’t know, not us nor your forefathers from before. Rather, it is a foreign word expressing an adornment for the rebellious and disobedient women of Europe (disbeliever , intepreted); and our women – except those of them whom Allāh protects – unfortunately imitate decorating themselves with this adornment which the Islamic society is being affected by, namely make-up. So it is not permissible for the woman. And this reality is one of the strange ironies: in the road we see a woman wearing a decent hijāb (but) I don’t say the Islamically legislated hijāb; she ties what they call the ‘ishārb’ – or khimār which is the (correct) Arabic word – covering her hair, her neck and so on, but she has face powder and lipstick on. This (wearing the hijāb) is against this (wearing make-up): two contradictory, conflicting matters that do not go together. What is the reason (for this type of occurrence)? It is one of two things: either ignorance and heedlessness of the Islamically legislated ruling or it is due to the women’s following of the whisperings of shaytān.
Sheikh al-Albany Rahimullah continued by saying;
Therefore, we firstly remind the women who suffer from this make-up. Then secondly, we remind the guardians of women such as a father or a husband or a brother, due to the fact that (the Prophet) (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
‘Everyone of you is a shepherd and everyone of you is responsible for his flock. So the man is a shepherd and he is responsible for his flock....’
[Sahih Bukhari - No 893]
Thus, the Arabic or general proverb states: ‘The horse is from the horseman.’ So you, the husband of the woman, it is not permissible for you to allow her to go out in this manner which puts to trial the middle-aged men, let alone the young men! And you, O man, O father, O brother, are supposed to be very jealous. Why? Because the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to say:
‘A duyyūth will not enter Paradise.’Why? Who is a duyyūth? He is the one who does not guard his womenfolk jealously.”
[Sahih Targhib - No 2071]
Abdullah Ibn Umar also reported that the Prophet (saws) said:
'Three people will not enter paradise, and Allah will not look at them on the day of Judgment: the one who is disobedient to his parents, the woman who imitates men and the ad-duyyuth'
[Musnad Ahmad]
Ad-duyyuthth is the man who permits women for whom he is responsible to engage in illicit sexual relations, or to display their beauty to strange men, thereby stimulating their sexual desires.
Allah SWT also has reminded is the holy Quran;
“O children of Adam! We have indeed sent down to you clothing to cover your shame, and (clothing) for beauty and clothing that guards (against evil), that is the best. This is of the communications of Allah that they may be mindful"
[Al-Qur’an · Surah A’raf · Ayah 26]
Allah the Exalted also says in Surat an-Noor, ayah 31:
"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent, and draw their veils over their (necks and) bosoms and not reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male servants who lack vigor, or small children who have no knowledge of women's private parts. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn you all to Allah in repentance, O believers, that you may be successful"
And He says in Surat al-Ahzab, ayah 59:
"Oh Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their outer garments close around them. That will be better, that they may be known and so not be bothered. And Allah is oft-forgiving, most merciful"
So to all my beloved sisters who love their brother, father or husband, please refrain yourself on wearing make-up or decorate yourself for other than your husband. They might be praying hard and a good practicing Muslim but they will be DRAGGED AND PUNISH IN THE HELLFIRE JUST BECAUSE OF YOUR REFUSAL TO OBEY TO ALLAH & HIS MESSENGER COMMAND. The famous understanding that if your do not cover yourself is your right and it didnt bring trouble to anyone are WRONG. Allah SWT want us to become private property and not to become a public property.
Imagines that you have a tonnes of gold would you expose it by placing in public places that will attract attention especially robbers or would you silently/secretly keep it at the safest place possible ie; bank? It doesnt take a genius to figure that out.
LOVE OURSELVES & OUR BELOVED ONE BY OBEYING TO ALLAH & HIS MESSENGER COMMAND. ENJOIN WHAT IS GOOD AND FORBID WHAT IS BAD.
Salam Bro.
